MENA Newswire News Desk: The World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) has revealed its planned themes and agenda for the upcoming 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29), set to take place from November 11 to 22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan. With a dedicated pavilion located in the Blue Zone, an area reserved for top-tier climate discussions and strategic dialogues, WGEO aims to foster high-level engagement on green economy initiatives and climate resilience.
WGEO’s presence at COP29 will encompass over 45 themed sessions and workshops, drawing participation from more than 150 global stakeholders. These sessions are designed around COP29’s core objectives, namely enhancing ambition, enabling action, and delivering inclusive climate solutions. Each session will underscore WGEO’s commitment to advancing the green economy, touching on areas pivotal to sustainable development and climate action.
The organization has organized its participation around several thematic days, each dedicated to critical areas relevant to the global transition toward a green economy. Themes include Global Leadership for a Green Economy Transition, Collaborative Climate Action, Sustainable Finance for Green Growth, Clean Energy, Resilient Recovery, Innovation, Climate Empowerment, Sustainable Solutions for Food, Agriculture, and Water, Urban Development and Transport, and Nature Protection and Equality for Climate Resilience.
Through these focused themes, WGEO will address key areas necessary for a comprehensive green economy shift. As part of its COP29 agenda, WGEO will host a high-level ministerial panel aimed at exploring the role of green economy transitions in driving effective climate action. This panel is expected to gather ministers and experts from around the world, providing a platform for sharing insights on policy, finance, and action frameworks that can bolster climate resilience.
Furthermore, the Global Alliance on Green Economy (GAGE) will convene its Second Quarterly Focal Points’ Meeting during the conference, with an agenda centered on climate projects and cross-border collaboration to support green financing initiatives. WGEO’s pavilion will also offer capacity-building sessions focused on Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, aimed at equipping attendees with the knowledge and skills needed to strengthen national climate contributions. This initiative underscores WGEO’s mission to cultivate a well-prepared, knowledgeable climate workforce that can effectively navigate and contribute to climate objectives.
Abdulrahim Sultan, Director General of WGEO, emphasized the organization’s commitment to actionable climate solutions, stating, “WGEO’s agenda at COP29 underscores our dedication to building a resilient global green economy by empowering nations and institutions to implement tangible climate solutions.” He highlighted that WGEO’s pavilion events are designed to inspire impactful dialogue, foster collaboration, and catalyze innovative green economy solutions in line with COP29’s objectives.
The WGEO pavilion in the Blue Zone will serve as a hub for interactive discussions and bilateral meetings with dignitaries, including heads of state, ministers, and leaders from global organizations. Through this engagement, WGEO seeks to position itself as a leading force in the worldwide shift towards sustainable economies and resilient environmental practices, emphasizing “United Action for Green Economy” as a central mission.
