It was announced today that Apple would be introducing the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with Apple’s next-generation pro silicon, M2 Pro and M2 Max, which will deliver even superior power efficiency and battery life to pro users. With its M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, MacBook Pro tackles demanding tasks, including effects rendering, which is up to six times faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro, as well as color grading, which is up to two times faster.
As a result of Apple’s silicon, MacBook Pro has the longest battery life ever achieved by a Mac. A number of enhancements have been implemented for enhanced connectivity, including Wi-Fi 6E3, which is up to twice as fast as the previous generation, as well as advanced HDMI, which for the first time supports 8K displays. M2 Max offers up to 96GB of unified memory, allowing creators to create scenes that are too large for PC laptops to handle. Also rounded out by the MacBook Pro’s renowned Liquid Retina XDR display, extensive array of connectivity, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, six-speaker sound system, and studio-quality microphones, it offers a wide range of unrivaled features.
When combined with macOS Ventura, the MacBook Pro offers an unparalleled user experience. Customers can order the new MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch starting today, with availability beginning on Tuesday, January 24. In addition to M2 Pro and M2 Max, MacBook Pro is capable of transforming professional workflows across a wide range of disciplines, ranging from art to science to app development. Performance, battery life, connectivity, and overall productivity will be enhanced even more dramatically for users upgrading from Intel-based Mac models. Also, the MacBook Pro maintains its performance whether it is plugged in or running on battery power.
MacBook Pro with M2 Pro features a 10- or 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance and four high-efficiency cores resulting in up to 20 percent superior performance than MacBook Pro with M1 Pro. Users will be able to tackle large projects and run multiple pro applications at blazing speeds with the 200GB/s unified memory bandwidth – double the amount in M2. As a result of a next-generation GPU with up to 19 cores, graphics performance is increased by up to 30 percent. Machine learning tasks, such as video analysis and image processing, are accelerated by 40 percent. Additionally, M2 Pro utilizes a powerful media engine capable of tearing through the most popular video codecs, allowing for significantly faster video playback and encoding.
In Adobe Photoshop, image processing is up to 80 percent faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and up to 40 percent faster than the previous generation of MacBook Pros. This MacBook Pro is equipped with a much larger GPU featuring up to 38 cores and delivering up to 30 percent greater graphics performance than M1 Max. It also has 400GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, twice that of the M2 Pro. In addition to its 96GB of unified memory, the MacBook Pro pushes the limits of graphics memory in a laptop to enable high-end graphics tasks, such as creating scenes with extreme 3D geometry and textures, or merging large photographic panoramas. M2 Max has a next-gen 12-core CPU with up to eight high-performance and four high-efficiency cores that delivers up to 20 percent greater performance over M1 Max, and a more powerful media engine than M2 Pro, with twice the ProRes acceleration to dramatically speed up media playback and transcoding.
As a result of M2 Max, effects rendering in Cinema 4D is up to 6 times faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Pro and 30 percent faster than the previous generation. The MacBook Pro now has Wi-Fi 6E3 for enhanced wireless connectivity, as well as more advanced HDMI to support 8K displays at 60Hz and 4K displays at 240Hz. In addition to the new capabilities, MacBook Pro features three Thunderbolt 4 ports for high-speed peripheral connections, an SDXC card slot, and MagSafe 3 charging capabilities.
It is even more efficient and productive with macOS Ventura on MacBook Pro. Continuity Camera brings powerful videoconferencing features to any Mac, including Desk View, Center Stage, Studio Light, and more. FaceTime’s Handoff feature enables users to initiate a FaceTime call on their iPhone or iPad and transfer it fluidly to their Mac, or vice versa. Moreover, tools such as Stage Manager automatically organize apps and windows so users can concentrate on the task at hand while still being able to see everything at a glance.
Mail and Messages are better than ever, while Safari – the world’s fastest browser on Mac – ushers in a password-less future. Users can now create and share separate photo libraries among up to six members of their family using iCloud Shared Photo Library. In addition, the Freeform app provides a flexible canvas that enables users to be more productive and expressive. This is true whether they are planning or brainstorming on their own or in collaboration with others. As a result of the power and popularity of Apple silicon, as well as the enhanced developer tools available in Metal 3, gaming on a Mac has never been more enjoyable.
